King Edward’s School is an independent day public school for boys, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham and was founded by King Edward VI in 1552.KES is a grand school with a fine reputation and many successful and important people have come through their ranks. Two such people, Sir Paul Ruddock (OE 1976) and Stuart Southall (OE 1976) generously a rare stained-glass window of St Margaret of Antioch by pre-Raphaelite artist Sir Edward Burne-Jones (OE 1852). The stained glass is beautifully crafted, a fine example and the fact that Burne-Jones himself was once at the school made it all the more fitting for it to be on display there.

The Stained Glass Display Company were asked to design and manufacture a bespoke lighting and framing system for the panel. The Stained Glass needed some TLC and TSGDC put the school in touch with Phil Crook of Vitrail Studios, who was able to give it the attention it required. The completed, framed Stained Glass was fitted in the centre of the school hallway system, where staff, visitors and pupils can be inspired by it.

The panel was unveiled at a special event, featuring speeches from Dr Katy Ricks (Chief Master of King Edward’s) Stuart Southall and Dr Alison Smith (Chief Curator at the National Portrait Gallery). It was a fabulous evening honouring a wonderful panel, now pride of place in a special school.
